CMS Analytics were looking to migrate their co-lo environment into AWS. In the current co-lo, Single servers held various single points of failure across the existing estate and they were out of compute to be able to expand any further. They had a single SQL server instance that regularly peaked past capacity. As they were looking to offer some parts of their app as a SaaS product, they really needed to be able to have the confidence they could offer customers any form of uptime and availability SLA.
Being a relatively small company, the inhouse traditional IT skills were next to nothing, so CMS were faced with either havign to hire someone, or choose an outsourced IT support provider which would have added significant overhead which they decided to re-use in an AWS project!
Alongside this move, CMS decided that it would make sense to look at various other features of the AWS technology stack, they'd recently trialed several messaging services & VC solutions so wanted to understand more about Chime too.
