FinOps Case Study
Jigsaw is the anti-superficial dating app that lets users put their personality first.
The challenge
Jigsaw is a dating application operating in the UK and US, and it’s expecting significant growth in the near future. The team wanted to ensure their AWS environment was architected in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible to support this anticipated growth.
This resulted in Jigsaw engaging Rebura to review its environment and highlight any potential improvements that could be made to the infrastructure.
The solution
Rebura carried out a Well-Architected Review (WAR) to ensure Jigsaw’s AWS environment is aligned to best practice against the five pillars of the AWS Well-Architected Framework. We recommended several remediation actions that corresponded with each of the following pillars:
- Operational excellence
- Reliability
- Cost optimisation
- Security
- Performance efficiency
The results
After working through the AWS WAR tool, Rebura identified 90 high-risk items across two production workloads. Rebura then worked closely with Jigsaw to address these issues. Jigsaw implemented some of our recommendations using their internal resources, and then Rebura resolved those where limited in-house expertise was available. This included:
- Enabling guard duty to protect Jigsaw’s infrastructure
- Enabling WAF and AWS Shield to protect against SQL injections and DDoS attacks
Following the completion of this project, Jigsaw’s infrastructure is now considerably more robust and secure, and fully cost optimised. Looking ahead, this will help the business to scale at pace and meet its ambitious growth targets.
